I have visited Irkutsk and Lake Baikal before, in late summer 1971 as a Czech
physics student. Once seen, it is impossible to forget about Baikal.
Since 1983 I have lived in Canada, and it took me long time before I saw Baikal
again, this time in the beginning of winter. And I was lucky to see Siberia
almost completely from within, as I was able to share the daily lives of
relatives and friends, and friends of friends, of a Winnipeg friend
of mine who came to Canada from Irkutsk.
Here I share with you a little bit of what I experienced there:

... building bridges between people ... The world would become a much better place if everybody made it a habit to try to imagine the state of mind of others, including their opponents and enemies. You don't have to agree with them or condone their acts, just try to understand their motives. In order to avoid making decisions that could further escalate various conflicts. Let's try to make the transition from the adversarial to a cooperative world. |
